detecting mounds of dirt

A construction company is building a new building on some property that I have permission to detect. They have been trucking the dirt to a field nearby and leaving it in a huge mound. How do you detect a mound of dirt like this? Do you detect completely around it and hope nothing is buried in the deep center? I would rather not be out there spreading this dirt to get a more flat surface to detect.

Any ideas or techniques?

I personally would not assume permission to go un-mounding their piles of dirt. ;D Just detect what you can, and be happy you had the chance. That would be my advice.

A shovel, a sifter box and a 5 gallon bucket. Fill, empty and repeat. Good luck.

Keep an eye on the pile. They will probably spread it out.
