Detecting trip with "sorekneesdayton", mercs, roosies and wheats
I called "sorekneesdayton" to give him the inside scoop on a spot near him that would have some more potential with a 12 inch coil. This is the place I found 2 large cents, 1879 injun, civil war token and a silver quarter. While talking to him I decided to invite him on a detecting trip. I picked Terry up at 8 am Sunday morning and we drove up to a nice private park I had permission at. Wheats were popping and not long in to the hunt I dug a nice 1938 merc. Terry swung that 12 inch coil trying to cherry pick the older deeper targets I missed. The huge old oak tree where I pulled many coins from was his first target. Unfotunately for Terry my CZ-5 must have got the job done as he left the area with some clad only. He moved out to other areas and scored a Roosie and some wheats. I tried a different area and dug a really nice 1918-S merc, a 62-D Roosie, several teens and twenties wheats, a 41 nickel and some clad. I dig targets 3 or more inches deep most of the time to try and get all the old coins. When I feel I'm done with the area, I'll turn it over to a clad hunter and let 'em get rich. Both of the mercs, although not rare by any means, were new additions to the coin album. The quarter in the pic was a surface find, not silver. I hope everyone is finding good sites and making good finds.
Thanks, Steve
