Thanks steve! Opens up a lot of questions about which hook was best for which fish, ect... or did it matter..... I like that curve on the bottom, is this a personal find? thanks for the furthering education :laughing9:

thanks naturegirl
i don't think the type was meant for certain species but the bigger hooks (however made) could have held bigger piece of bait and got a big catfish
or sturgeon
i would think that these hooks would have only worked if they were on a set line overnight so the fish could swallow them
i just cant see how these hooks could puncture a catfish jaw or even the jaw of a walleye or sauger,
this is why i think they must have been used in this way
and yes the blank and the small hook in my hand were personal finds
the ones in the frame on the other post are finds of a long time friend
thank you for your interest
steve

Very interesting to see the round bone variety of hook. A fish that could swollow all that would be fairly big. Would have taken some strong cordage or sinew for the line. You are a lucky fellow, cool stuff.

That is what our blanks look like here on our Ft Ancient sites. I also have a Fish Hook that looks very similar to that one.

Very nice pieces Steve!
