Murray and I went to the only park near me that has silver. I scored my 10th silver from here and the 2nd Barber. This one also gets me to 46 fty. My total from all of last year. It sounded really good from one direction. Turned 90 degrees and no sound at all. I cut the plug and immediately saw a big old nail in it. Directly below the nail in the bottom of the hole sat only my 3rd Barber dime of the year:headbang:

Gold rings with broken shanks give one way scratchy signals, small gold chains do also. A lot are trash BUT you never know until you dig. Nice save.

Sweet Barber Dime.
I've dug a few silver coins that were being masked by iron. Very nice feeling to dig the silver out from under the iron. Congrats

Well dang! Good looking coin, but I had gotten into the (evidently) bad habit of writing off one-way targets. Gotten check some old areas out again.

Great save btw. That's a beautiful old coin. Those sideways dimes can bounce all over the place but as you know, it's often worth digging those questionable tones.

Btw, I asked the question earlier on in this thread but I now know what one way signal is. I've dug a thousand of 'em.
I got two deep, broken, very thin, sideways lying gold rings that way last year. Got a really small, deep trolley token that way too back in the early spring. I've also dug a ton of foil that way.

Sometimes those "iffy" signals peak my curiosity more than the strong, repeatable signals do. Sometimes when it turns out to be something good it just makes the hunt that much more challenging and all the better. Yeah, you get a ton of trash but once in a while you get something sweet and then it's all worthwhile.
