Cool place Vibes. My son and I tried it all day in the Crater of Diamonds, but all we got was real muddy. Still fun.

As a few of you here know (you followed my adventure on Facebook) I didn't find a diamond:(

Last week Charlie e-mailed and said his great niece and nephew found 2 in my "hole." ( I found a spot that felt right to me and that's where I spent my time digging) THEN night before last (March 29th) he e-mailed again and stated:

"YOU SHOULD SEE WHAT CAME OUT OF YOUR HOLE TODAY
WATCH YOUR NATIONAL NEWS SOMETIME DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS FOR THE RELEASE"

I haven't heard a word from him since, nor have I seen anything in the news....yet. :dontknow:

I've got some info on Crater of Diamonds in Arkansas and another place called Gem Mountain in North Carolina. Would love to visit either of these but If I had my pick I'd choose Gem Mountain because there are more types of Gems found on that site than the Crater of Diamonds and the COD usually doesn't give up that many diamonds on a hunt---I've heard that about one diamond is found a day around that place and that's one diamond among so many folks trying to find one. Oh yeah, I'd still go for it and hope to make my fortune LOL!!! BUT GET THIS: A BUDDY OF MINE FOUND 12 GEMSTONES IN ONE BUCKET OF DIRT AT SOMEPLACE IN NORTH CAROLINA...He found a couple rough diamonds, a couple rough rubies, a couple rough saphires, and it added up to 12 stones in all in one bucket of dirt and sediments, etc. The bucket cost him ten or 15 bucks and get this...after finding 12 stones in first bucket he didn't even try his luck with another bucket of dirt and his brother who was along on the trip didn't even buy a bucket of dirt to sift through...WHAT'S UP WITH THAT JUNK! MAN, I'D HAVE BEEN PUMPED UP AND SIFTED TWO OR THREE MORE BUCKETS! AND I DANG SHURE WOULDN'T HAVE WATCHED MY BROTHER GET 12 STONES AND NOT BUY AT LEAST ONE BUCKET TO LOOK THROUGH MYSELF!!! SOME FOLKS!!!!

is it possible that, that one bucket was seeded? Sounds plausible to me, good thing you held back..........NGE

I don't know what happened to my text so I'm going to try this one more time...

ZINCLID,

I tinkered with the idea of doing a NC gem trip but if I remember correctly, they DO seed the buckets...and that's not for me. I enjoy digging in the dirt/earth:)

I think most people don't know what a raw diamond looks like in the 'wild'...so I think many overlook or just don't notice one.
I broke down a few buckets and then placed the small stuff in a saruca sifter....that's what you see in the photos, a saruca pile and then Charlie placed one of his diamonds in the pile for me to find so I knew what I was looking for. It's so easy to overlook one even when it's right there in your face!

Have you ever thought of crystal digging? I loved it, had a blast!

Don't some diamonds "fluoresce" under black light? If so I think that would make spotting them easier. Anyway I think your chances would be better if you could use a trackhoe, trommel and grease table but thats just my opinion. They would probably charge me more than the standard fee I guess though. :laughing9:
