Anyone have a good way of retrieving objects from rock hard ground, it is becoming impossible here to dig more than a couple inches. I am considering taking along a cordless drill and making 4 inch holes and lighting firecrackers 'em, think it'll work?...FIRE IN THE HOLE!

I'll usually wait until rain or a good watering. If you have a place that just won't wait, sharpen your tools real well and wear some gloves! I find a strong probe or screw driver works as good as anything in petrified ground. Now if this is turf that somebody cares about, I'd wait until better conditions as the plug will die for sure.

I hire a young man and pay him $20 an hour or if I'm lucky and he is not to bright, I offer him half my finds.

Either way I don't have to dig.

Wait for rain or find some softer dirt.

about a Foot Long,
Penetrates Hard ground like dust,
also pops rocks out fairly easy.

Bought it Decades ago from a Whites dealer at the Bloomsberg fair & it
Never bent.

even the fork part is Heavy Hollow Steel, which
is probably why it is "Jeff of Pa Proof"
when it comes to bending or breaking tools

Not sure where you will find a Exact match,

But Google "dandelion digger"

We are used to digging in the GA clay which is a bear especially when dry. We have used a cordless drill with a 1 1/4 inch bit many times and it works like a charm. Drill some holes in a pattern and then take a small hand held double ended miner's pick and start hacking at it. The dirt will come out in big clumps.

We'd love to send you some of our rain, I carry an umbrella with me at all times now. Mud slides on the roads, and another monsoon again today. We did have 3 straight days without rain though - a record for the Summer/Spring this year....

Only thing I fear is it will make up for it when temps hit the 20's :(

I guess it depends on the soil. Those weed poppers won't do a thing in our hard adobe soil.....like trying to poke through a brick. Even a sharpened screw driver has a hard time.
