Haven't had much spare cash since coming back from vacation in early October and getting hit pretty hard during Sandy. Managed to find myself with some this week though, so...

Picked up $300 in MWR halves + $70 in CWR halves.

Skunked on the CWR. Pulled three 40%ers from the MWR: 1967 x 2, 1968.

Dumped them and picked up a sealed cube-style box of halves.

I hate these cube-style boxes, I never find anything in them. One of my pick-up banks, which is serviced by Garda, gets a mix of the long flat boxes and these cube-style ones.

The long flat ones produce, the cube-style have not yet. :icon_scratch:

Skunked on another box of halves I picked up yesterday.

Skunked on a box of dimes as well.

Four of the seven total quarters that I've found so far have come from reject trays. The other three came from teller trays.

Skunked on the box of halves that I picked up yesterday.

Dumped $250 worth on my lunch break and snagged another 1954 Roosie from the reject tray. Going to dump the second $250 worth after work.

My total take for the year so far is ~33 ozt. I want to hit at least 35 ozt before the year is out.

Went out on my lunch break with $10. Picked up a roll of CWR halves. Skunked.

Dumped them and found three keepers in the reject tray:

1950 Roosie
1958 Roosie
1944 Washington

When the coin machine spit out my receipt, total came to $12.03.

8-)

That brings my total quarters to nine; an average of one per month since I started hunting, all found in reject or teller trays.

Getting closer to my new goal of 35 ozt before the year is out. Still hoping to find a Walker to finish the last of my original goals for the year.

How do you go about seeing what coins are in their tray? Do you just look or do you ask them?

I just look. Tellers usually have their tray just sitting on the counter next to them.

Went out on my lunch break with the $12.03 from yesterday.

Picked up $8 in loose halves. Skunked.

Dumped them, the coin machine receipt said $16.93. 8-)

Picked up a roll of CWR halves. Skunked.

Went to dump them, found three keepers in the reject tray:

1967 Kennedy
1948 Roosie
1959 Washington

Coin machine spit out the receipt and it read $17.30.

8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

That makes ten quarters for this year.

Picked up $50 in CWR halves. Skunked.

Dumped them at my favorite dump bank. When I got up to the machine, the reject tray was full of coins. Pulled all of those coins out and found two keepers in it:

1941S Washington
1963 Washington 8-)

The rest was mostly mid-2000's foreign coins.

Coin machine receipt said $56.11. Not too shabby. Made six bucks plus some silver.

That brings my quarter total up to twelve so far. I estimate I'm about seven grams short of hitting my goal of 35 ozt for the year. Still have a week to hit that goal though.

Is it common for you guys to get more money out of the change machines than you put in? It has been a while since I have been to a bank machine but I have always heard that they can "screw" people out of money not give extra money. Thats awesome man.

Really it just comes down to being there at the machine at the right time.

A lot of the time coins that get rejected don't make it down into the actual reject tray, instead they land in the tube that leads to the tray. Just stick your hand up there and scoop. Sometimes people don't even check the reject tray for the coins that actually do make it there.

I get shorted every once in a while myself, so it's a give and take kind of thing. Haha.

Now, my favorite dump bank is in a somewhat urbanized area with a lot of foot traffic and a lot of teenagers and kids. A lot of people dump their spare change there, and a lot of other hunters dump there as well. It's these kids and non-CRH dumpers that usually don't know how the coin machines function, don't know the amount of change they are dumping in the first place, etc. that allows people like me to find what I do.

Well, didn't find any silver today.

Ended the year with a total of 34.5 ozt found out in the wild. Still added to the stack though, so it's all good.

I'm looking to at least double that in 2013. And find my first Walker.

Happy New Year everyone!
