Not really. if you have the angle right and the flow right most of the gold should be in the first half,that is unless the area is extremely rich in which case you will see it loading up and moving on. I have seen them placed in streams, very long with a slight angle and just left there though.

.......again that is not entirely true!!!A longer box gives more surface area for fine gold to fall out....from the fast current,but you must have the proper set up to also go along with it.
