DIY spare rechargeable battery pod for excalibur

I am making a spare battery pod for my detector. I have a female Ikelite connector. The plan is to use a short piece of pvc as the battery pod. I was going to use the maxxpack excalibur battery, attach it to the ikelite with a 9v snap connector. The ikelite will be installed into a flat pvc endcap and everything else sealed inside. Couple of questions for those with more knowledge. Looking at the ikelite connector and considering the index hole, to which side do I connect the red wire and which side do I connect the black wire? Also, for those who have used the rechargeable batteries, do you think the Nimh maxxpack battery is the best one to use? It says it has a thermostat in the pack so it doesnt overheat in the pod. I have also read where some people have used the Lithium polymer batteries with good results. Thanks.

NOTE: THIS IS THE VIEW FROM THE THREADED END, NOT THE END THAT GOES INSIDE THE TUBE. The red and black battery connector lead get reversed inside the tube. Just make sure the connections give the correct polarity on the screw end, as shown below.



I have used many of the MAXXPACK replacement battery packs with great success.
As for the LI-ion...Note that they require a special charger and the votage is 3.7vdc per cell.

Sorry I miss this post, one thing also check and make sure your Excalibur II fits that ikelite. Tightens down firm. I made a couple to test for this summer and the ikelites are older and when used with the xcalibur two they will not tighten down all the way and cut on and off. I am not sure if there are two different caps but my old excaliburs work fine..will get a pic when I get home tonight.

The problem with Lith..... there is a third wire thats required for the charger to check each cell. You would have to open the pod or come up with a way for that wire to come outside the pod. The Maxxpac are excellent batteries, ive been using them awhile now and the charger charges them in about 2 hours. WHERE........ i ask again WHERE did you get that fitting? I WANT ONE..... OR TWO. Without a doubt you can make a pod out of PVC..... once you figure out how to connect to the shaft as well. Great idea. Cant tell you how many people have cracked end caps and it that connector that we are missing. Ive noticed my Blue is wired different than my Xcal II as to which side the red wire is. Obviously it matters.

Dew you can special order those from some dive shops...they run about 30 each...

You were right OBN. The fitting they sent me doesnt fit correctly. The index pin hits the bottom of the hole before the plugs are all the way in. I drilled the index hole about 1/4" deeper and now it snugs up like its supposed to.
