Do coin & jewelry core materials affect target analysis ?

Hi everyone ! I'm fairly new to MD'ing and this forum. Just got my first metal dtector, the Garrett Ace 250, about a year ago.

I was wondering, do the core materials typically used for clad coins and plated jewelry have any affect on target analysis and identification ?

For example, in the case of five cent nickel having a highly conductive copper core, but clad with low conductivity nickel, would the radio waves from the coil cause a response signal from the core material, and if so, how much influence does this have on target analysis and identification? Or does the nickel cladding, having the much lower conductivity, provide the
dominate response signal ?

If I understand correctly, radio signals in the frequency range normally employed for metal detectors can pass through most, if not all, materials. Therefore, it would seem that core materials would contribute to the data analysed for target identification.

Assuming two nickels, both having a high conductivity copper core, but one clad with low conductivity nickel and the other clad with high conductivity silver (i.e. a Standard IH/Buff nickel versus Wartime), I would guess that the dominating influence on target identification would come from the higher conductivity metal, regardless if it is the core or the clad material.

To those who reply........Thanks a lot !.........Todd :)

Absolutely.

I get different signals on each of these.

Early Indian Cent
Late Indian Cent
Early Wheat
Late Wheat / Copper Memorial
Zinc Cent

I Also Noticed Nickel Differences.

But Not 90% silver, except by size

My Sovereign Meter has Number ID

& what I find is Each Older one Goes About 5 Points Less.

Example

550 Copper Memorial or Late Wheat

500 Early Wheat & Late Indian

450 Zinc Cent & Early Indian

These are Approximate, as I pay Very Little Attention to my Meter.

The biggest influences is the minerals and salt in the soil as well as how long its been there and how deep the coin is. If you measure a coin on the ground you will get a pretty consistent reading. However, once its in the ground awhile the readings change and its takes on corrosion. Also, because of density, coins drift to a depth at your detectors limit and will sometimes even read as iron if its real deep.
