I got a call from TreasureFiend this morning asking me to meet him and
Gothboi30 at one of the local sites around 10:00AM. By the time we got there,
it was pouring rain. . . the rangers and "backer-inners" were out in full force
so we headed to the closest restaurant to weather out the wet.

After about 40-minutes, the rain let up, we paid the tab, and were out the door.

After about three hours of digging trash & iron Gothboi30 (Paul) started finding
remnants of campers. . . (his name should be "spoon king"). . . which gave us all
hope that other things may have been lost as well.

After a 4th hour of digging odds & ends, we all ended up where we had started.

I had just about given up hope for any coinage today but lucked out with a small
spill consisting of a '36 Merc and a '20 Buffalo :icon_sunny:

It was fun, plus, there wasn't any snow to wade through

I'd have gone out but I probably would have had my pink frilly unbrella struck by lightning. :tongue3:

Hi everyone!! A big thanks to Watercolor and TF for a fun (if muddy) outing. More thanks to WC for his help w/ iffy signals, probe, and shovel (3 things I really need!!). After all was said and done (about 4 1/2 hrs), I ended up with 3 spoons, a commemorative token for the Mercury VI spacecraft w/ John Glenns name on it, and an oval ring Watercolor believes is part of a bridle harness. One of the spoons dates to 1897!! Info here http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=1854402 I'm still working on info for the other two. Pics below. The 1897 spoon is the one on the far left. Enjoy!!

Nice Job Paul!
You can put that Mercury VI token along side your mercury dime. So the one spoon is silver plated, what about the other 2? I have a suspicion I know where you all were hunting today, but I may be wrong -- that is judging by your finds and Mark's finds.

Jon- I found some additional info on spoon no. 2...looks like it dates 1920s-1940s...only link I could find about it here...http://cvcfineart.com/dynapage/IP195.htm Now looking up info for spoon no. 3, as well as the 2 I took home with me after our Sat. hunt w/ Makton...stay tuned...

Now all you need is some forks and knives, perhaps you can put together your own kitchenette set

Can't find any info on spoon no. 3...only words on the handle are "winters special"...no luck w/ searching for those terms... :icon_scratch: :help: The other 2 spoons from last Sat. just appear to be (fairly) modern stainless....any help w/ spoon #3 is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Maybe it came from that brothel in Wyoming that the spoon in Link 2 was from... I don't know what sort of winters they have out there ... why it'd warrant a "special"

Great hunt, Mark!!!

I see you hit nirvana with your signature assortment of both relics and coins. Yhat little car is quite nifty! It will look quite good in your coffee table. Keep this up and you'll have to make a matching end table!

Nice finds on those old spoons, Paul!!!

Paul, those spoons are cool. . . I don't think I ever found that
many in such a short period of time. . . and that Merc Token
is very cool. . . I love that kind of stuff.

Regarding the Buff nickel. . . I just soak them for about 6-hours
in Worchestshire sauce with intermittent scrubbing.
That usually gets the red out.

Thanks for the comments. . .

Way to go Mark. We're going to have to check out the site where I found that badge soon....before it gets overgrown. Maybe next Tues or Wed? I'm off both days.
