Hey folks,

I found a ring in my neighbor's yard a while back with the Maker's Mark "Sumatra" on the inside of the band. It's an older ring, probably ~1940s just looking at it. It's silver-ish in color but rings out at between a 52-55 of the DFX which is generally too high for gold and too low for silver.

Could just be some cheaper alloy, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about it.

Thank you!

Try a local jeweler, he/she may be able to tell you more but Sumatra is an Indonesian Island. No idea if that means anything though, could just mean where it was made but again, no idea.

Probably silver plate over "pot metal" (zinc alloy)

the 1930 Tariff Act mandated anything imported into the US have the country of origin marked on it.
