Don't know nuthin' about buttons.... !

Hello all!
I did some lazy hunting this afternoon right after work; hit the area surrounding an elementary school. Besides the usual handful of clad, I hit on some sort of military button. It was buried about 2 inches deep at the base of a very old oak tree. It's brass (I think) and once had two very sharp barbs on the reverse - one has since broken off. Maybe that's how it got lost in the first place! Anyone have any idea what I found? Thanks!
Ruth

It's a U. S. Army Corps of Engineers collar disk. The two-pin reverse dates it 1952 or later. The actual manufacture of this style of disk ended in 1971, but they remained in use long afterward.

Thanks, PBK! I just KNEW that I wouldn't have to wait very long until someone could tell me what in the world I'd pulled out of the dirt. Thanks again!

Nice unit crest, PBK gave a very good explanation of it! I see that emblem a lot around the military posts where I work. HH, Mike
