I meant to post this image last month on May 23rd (exactly 27 years after I made it) but, time had a way of slipping by. I scanned this image from a 35mm slide I took in Door County Wisconsin, five days after Mt. St. Helen erupted in 1980. Particles of ash from the eruption in the upper atmosphere that had drifted over Wisconsin created the colorful lighting effects. . . no camera skill was necessary on my part :D

That is beautiful! I remember well when St Helens erupted....it did indeed look like that and our cars were covered with ash. I always thought the sky was beautiful in spite of the destruction the eruption caused, your picture captured it beautifully! Thanks for sharing!

When we camped up there, we'd always make it a point to stop by the Wagon Trail near Rowley's Bay in the morning. . . they made the best pecan rolls ever.
