I found the coin in pocket change. I wish I could get out and dig something, I think that's why I was looking at my change. It was sort of hunting.

Cool find but not a doubled die. It is either "Machine Doubling" or "Deteriorating Die" and carries little to no premium.Deteriorating Die is caused by deteriorating die Machine Doubling is the coin slightly shifting due to pressure when struck. Doubled die would not look that flat and ghost like but very raised and shelf-like.

Here is a Doubled Die that I recently found

Good luck, You will eventually find one. DDO or not, your coin is very cool

The missing part of date is caused by a greased die error, some grease filled up the space in the die where the last number was, it made it so that number was un-struck

Key Dates and Rarities

The following Lincoln wheat cents in any condition, are worth considerable more than common wheat pennies. As such, these coins are frequently counterfeit or altered from common wheat pennies. Therefore, before you start celebrating your early retirement with your new found fortune, have the coin authenticated by a reputable coin dealer or third party grading service.
•1909-S VDB (small "S" below the date and "V.D.B." on the back at the bottom between the stems of the wheat ears)
•1909-S
•1909-S Over Horizontal S (RPM)
•1914-D
•1917 Doubled Die Obverse
•1922 No "D" (missing mint mark below the date)
•1931-S
•1943 Bronze/copper (cents in 1943 were made out of zinc plated steel, not copper)
•1943-D Bronze/copper (cents in 1943 were made out of zinc plated steel, not copper)
•1943-S Bronze/copper (cents in 1943 were made out of zinc plated steel, not copper)
•1944 Steel (cents in 1944 were again made out of copper/bronze, some old steel blanks got minted in 1944 by mistake)
•1944-D D Over S (RPM)
•1955/55 (doubled die variety)

Date & Mint/Circulated/Uncirculated/buy sell

1955 $0.09 $0.05 $0.60 $0.40

Hello Doc,

Very interesting error coin. My favorite is the 1955 double die (bought one 30 years ago) just a beautiful coin.

Regards,

Doc

Cool find! Betcha family or others are caching in the older generations coin collection not knowing what it is besides coins!

Thanks Frank for the expert opinion. Been thinking about the coin, I know it's not worth more than twenty dollars at the most but have been running your theory through my head and think you hit the nail right on the head. Pressure..kinda like a pressure wave ...Yep! Many thanks, Doc
