While flint arrowheads and spear points, have been heavily hunted by the public in general, you can still find flint tools on private land. I say "private property" because federal lands have protective regulations. For me, I'd only need to search my own back yard. Flint scraping or cutting tools can be quite plentiful, even in farm fields which have been hunted for decades by arrowhead/point collectors.

Normally, a variety of styles can be found, but all have sharp often curved edges. Bow scrapers will be curved parts and also different sharp pointed angles.

Here is a very simple scraper with a cutting end so sharp you could cut yourself if not careful.

this is the sharp end.

The largest curve for working bow front.

You see a much smaller arrow shaft size curve on the other sharp end.

Keep an eye out and you might find a couple gun flints, right in the same area. I have one looks like a Dover rifle flint, the Indians probably modified it to add on a necklace. Dover flints from the British, think is what they are with a white surface skin, darker color underneath. Don't have any pics of it handy, maybe do that next time.

Here we go, whether it was a gun flint or Indians made a pendant meant to be wrapped with buckskin, beaded for a necklace. I'm not an expert on flintlock rifles, so best I can do is post some photos. However, about 2-3 miles east of where it was found, Col Jackson the Indian figher they brought up from the south (think he was from Virginia) burnt an Indian village that had British newspapers and ammunition. It does have the bright white surface like some Dover flints do.

The unaltered flint doesn't have sharp flat edges. This one shows no sign of having been worked any.
