Love the preform as it shows extensive work. Always makes me wonder when I find one when looking at it why it did not continue on to a finished product. Was it a step in it they knew they could not remove or maybe a fracture or was the tool used as is and discarded. If material was plentiful I think they used and tossed if scarce they would use every attempt to work it further.
Great study piece and find.

Thank you and very good analysis.. I think you're right.. I think they would go out/travel a bit to find raw material, I think they would then quickly work what they find down into many preforms. This way they wouldn't have to carry back to camp large/heavy raw material but instead lighter refined preforms; which would make the walk back more manageable. I think they would use it for miscellaneous needs but I believe the main objective would be to work it into a finish point.
