Hey guys! It's been a while... sorry bout that. Life got busy. I got a chance to get out on Friday for a couple hours to a field that has been very good to me. I saw that it had a fresh plow so I called up the land owner and got a quick permission. Third signal in was an 1851 (no mint) US $1 gold coin. That's a serious monkey off my back! I had an agreement with the land owner and he was gracious enough to let me keep it as a way of saying thanks for me handing over tons of other coins and heirlooms to him in the past. Hope you enjoy the video.

Congrats. Has my BANNER vote also. Like I always say, any gold coin found with a metal detector deserves it. Enjoyed the video.

I agree its an awesome find and Im super jealous but well over 3 million of these were minted that year.

Great find and video. I bet you nearly cried when you saw that first glint, after your jaw snapped shut. The first gold coin I ever found a few years ago, and posted here, somewhere, was on the top of an Atlantic Beach. I didn't believe it at first. Congratulations! I'm still looking for my first US gold coin.

BANNER vote sent in!

Great video and even greater coin find. Congrats on your first US gold coin find. That's one more than I have found so far :tongue3:. Not that it matters but it the reverse of the coin looks like it might have been in a setting for a ring or pendent. It looks like you can see where there are four prong marks in it. Maybe not it's hard to tell in the video. Congrats again!

But they are such a small coin and I wonder how many have been found detecting?

I bet they hated that small $1 coin because they could so easily be lost due to their size. I know that outside of my seated field I have found a trime and 4 half dimes and no seated dimes from that period.
