I had to share this experience and wonder if anybody else has encountered the same situation. So I went to dump $500 in halves at a branch I have never been to before. The teller is more than happy to take them, but says she has to count them all because they have had some bad experiences in the past with people intentionally shorting the rolls or placing pennies in dime rolls. This is the first time anybody has literally cracked open every roll and counted each coin, even though I have dumped at other branches of the same bank. I swear it took 20 minutes to go through them all. Now to me, it would have been much quicker to empty each roll into stacks placed side by side so she could see the stacks at the same height (kinda like the casino dealers do), but NO, she had to look at each and every coin. Needless to say, I will not be going back to that branch even though I got the time to wait.

I won't say which bank this is, but they are a local bank with probably no more than 20 branches total. Given the small number of banks in my immediate area, I may have to use them again. I should bring in a $1000 bag and see what they say ;D. I've also noticed most of the tellers in my area are on to the silver game, so it's very possible they were searching.

I had that happen to me once before. 500 dollars and took about 15 minuets as i repeatedly told her i already counted all of them but she insisted to count all of them. I'd dumped there before and never had a problem. Never going back though.

I haven't deposited coins into my bank account forever. When I did they would have me put my name and phone number on each roll.

My credit union has a coin counter and they charge 7% to count them even though I'm depositing them into my savings account.

I'll wait 15 minutes to avoid that charge.
