..here it's called Rapier."
Today i was visited by a good friend. He owns a tattoo shop and he mets a lot of different people as you can imagine. Some come in and offer weird things in exchange for a tattoo. He also is a collector of bladed weapons so sometimes things match. He got this sword from someone and decided to give it to me as a present.
So here we go!
I need help with ID because i'm not familar with swords, although i'm leaning towards French origin. Some etched engraving on the blade and script i can't decipher. Pommel is missing and looks like rebuild with some putty. Not sure on the handle. No makers mark or stampings found so far.

Thanks for the comments all! :occasion14:
That is truly a weapon you won't be pierced with. I had some blades in my hands over the years but this one needs respect. It's like a needle.
I hope some of the CW specialists chime in to give at least an idea where to start.

This guy may be able to help.

What an awesome friend you have. Am I seeing things or is there a date of 1691 on it?

That is a very nice looking sword. Here's hoping you can get an I'D on this piece soon. It will sure display well and add to your collection. You do indeed have a great friend.

We raised in the same small village, fought back to back as teens, never lost contact over the years when life got in the way. Yes, you don't need many friends, just two or three real friends. He was the one i gave the Armor Plate Knive i made out of steel i found on a WWII battle site. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/611135-armor-plate-knife.html
