Headed out at 6:30 this morning to try and get a jump on the heat wave that has been hammering PA for over a week. The combination of high 90's on the thermometer and the rock hard ground have kept me from doing too much detecting this summer but today I decided I've had way too much time away from the dirt and I had to get in a few hours before the sun became unbearable.

I went to a ballfield that Jeff of PA and I have done fairly well at over the past two years and was pleasantly surprised with today's finds. Unfortunately that rock hard ground came in to play when I had the best signal of the day and I hit her on the face.

Here she is 1943 S Walking Liberty half dollar with a Lesche scar!

Here's a tag or token of some sort that I found in the same area, anyone have any ideas on what it may be?

I also found a 1904 Indian head cent which just won't photograph well enough to post. All these targets were over 6" deep in rock hard dry ground, the Indian was closer to 8". Has anyone ever noticed that some sites seem to hit better when the ground is completely dry?

Our temps are supposed to be in the 80's this week and hopefully we will see some much needed rain to soften the ground!

Nice finds! I got out early, too, but no silver! Better pound that spot!

Great finds! And yes I have noticed the silver just screams out when the ground is bone dry

Nice walker!
Been too hot for me too. I did manage some nice finds last week, but still did not post. Ground too dry!

I have noticed certain soils/areas seem to chime sweet on silver when it is dry--but not everywhere.

Thanks guys!

Josh, thanks for the link.........you're right they look very similar. I looked at the back of mine and it has that same "pitted" appearance......could be the same manufacturer!

Thanks again,

Dave
