A short hunt today on the frozen field. Small sections of the slopes were thawed and passed the shovel easily. Now and then a little more stomping was required to pry the frozen plug.

Some clad, two buttons and a medal in a couple hours.

One button is a tombac, the other is perhaps late 19th century and bears the name of the tailor shop in Baltimore "F.W. Ellinghaus". Record of his shop appears in two Maryland 19th century journals and a 1913 Polk directory for Baltimore. In 1900, the Ellinghaus family lived at 12 N. Ann St in Baltimore. Frederick Wilhelm Ellinghaus was born in Germany and arrived in the U.S. in 1860.

Finding a button with some identifying marking like this one is a real treasure to me with the opportunity to research the people behind the button.

Congrats on the finds.

That Ellinghaus button and your documentation is over-the-top cool! I love it! Is the other one a tombac or a flat "dandy-style" button? The religious medal is "Miraculous" ..so to speak!

Amazing old button ,and great research on it. A beautiful Catholic medal also.

Glad you were able to pop some plugs. As always you have some really nice finds. Congrats on your buttons and your Miraculous medal. Keep the coil close to the ground my friend.

As always nice old relics, glad u got out, I've been out but the ground is frozen. I currently live less than a block away from 12 N Ann St.
U just never know what will come out of the ground.

Congratualtions on the interesting finds! :occasion14:

Sweet find thanx for sharing!

Nice finds dude.

I got through the ground this pm. In some places. Had the day off, had to dig. Beaches are ok.

Thx Lilo! This is the deep-freeze winter in Baltimore. We haven't been shut out like this for a few seasons.

Thanks Jamie. Digging most targets. The first button was load and a mid-tone. Never thought it would be deep.

Thanks much, Ken. Heading out tomorrow AM as we've had temps in the 60s today with lots of rain.

Thx crescol! Yes, the research is icing on the cake. The larger button is a tombac. I guess I've found in the neighborhood of 50 buttons at this site.

Thx thrifty76now! That 4-hole button appears to have been lacquered in black. I like finding the old local buttons.

Glad to hear you got out today Smokey to do some digging between the raindrops.
