Not terribly. After bathing they wear warm clothes.
This is an old tradition.

.Epiphany - Christian feast, celebrated in honor of the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan by John the Baptist. At the time of baptism, according to the Gospels, on Jesus the Holy Spirit came in the form of a dove. Also great feast of the Orthodox calendar, set 6 / 19 January to commemorate the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist in the waters of the Jordan River, during which Jesus Christ was first presented to the people as the Son of God.
In all the cities and villages of people rushing to the holy water, in order to bring some water to the house of the saint. On the river or lake in the ice necessarily cut down a hole in the form of a cross. The most daring traditionally dipped his head - no one afraid of cold. Indeed, the only way to be cleansed of sin and disease.

OK I am stumped. I have looked and looked and I cannot see the wires to the heating element anywhere, do they pour in the hot water,, How much does it take to make a frozen lake warm enough to get in? HMMMMM I am thinkin I would not be interested, looks painful.

What heated water? It's like what we call our "Polar Bear Club" in the US. Cut a hole in the ice on New Year's Day and enjoy...

Kamgort,
I didn't see you jumping in? You need an underwater detector for all the lost jewelry in that spot!!!

The faithful are frustrated as epiphany bathing is banned in Moscow
Taking the plunge into Moscow’s icy waters is not so easy. The emergencies ministry banned the faithful and foolhardy from breaking through the ice at Park Kultury on Wednesday night.

Originally billed for Andreyevsky Prud, by the Andreyevsky monastery in the south west of the city, epiphany ice dippers were told on Wednesday night, the evening of Epiphany itself, that operations had been transferred down river to Park Kultury.

Unfortunately for would-be dippers, this too had been banned by the emergencies ministry, no reason was given.

Photos Epiphany bathing made in the Urals. It is 1000 kilometers from Moscow.
