So I went to an estate sale this morning hoping to score some sterling items, but I ended up with some war nickels and a fistfull of pre 1960's all at face value.

To top it off I also scored 4 bottles of Napa Cabernet for $2 each, one of them a 1989 reserve....it probably hasnt been stored properly but the other 3 are all 40 dollar bottles :-)

ok Heres what I got for nickels - any of these rare dates? I don't know jack about nickels, but i see some posts from you guys talking about pre-1960 nickels so I thought I would scoop them up since they were at face value.

Excellent! awesome to get them at face. 5 silver is good news! um key dates, well lets see here, 1938-D, 1938-S, 1939-D, 1939-S and the 1950-D, so looks like you got none of those :/ sorry, but still a great score on the 5 war, and im sure you can sell those pre 60's rolls on feebay for a decent price

Very nice on those war nickels! They are worth nearly $2.00 as of yesterday so you did very well there. As far as the key dates for nickels, Brendan listed them but unless they are in MS state, they really do not have much, if any, premium. I love looking through nickel boxes, but I know there is not much money to be made by finding a key date - even the buffs do not have any key dates as millions were minted every year. (exception - 37D 3 Legged buff) When I get a nickel box, I normally just look at the backs for the mint mark above the dome.

Best to you.

great purchase. I love going to estate sales and garage sales. I find all kinds of stuff. Only found coins at one so far this year, but I find marked jewelry all the time for very cheap.
