Ever see one of these?

I found this spike in a piece of wood that washed up after a nor'easter. Pulled this spike out of the piece of wood that appeared to be the gunwall from a boat. It appears to be brass. Probably a cleat from an old sailing ship. Found it in an area around NY/NJ where there were a lot of old shipwrecks.

Anyone ever see one of these or have any background on exactly what it is? Any idea how old it may be?

Nice spike, I found one once, shipwreck spikes. Im sure some of the shipwreck experts can tell exactly about it. Its weird how its still shiney, guess the waves kept it polished :)

It's finds like these that are really interesting, especially after a Noreaster. Really cool find. Love to hear the history behind that spike.

That looks familiar. I found part of one in North Carolina this summer. Your's is really shiny. I think mine's bronze.
