Not sure what problems your having with the Garrett Infinium, I know hunters who use it and love it, but the Excal II, just like the Excal, works great in the salt water as long as you have a unit that is working properly.

The Garrett gives false signals on the end of each swing, refuses to stay ground balanced........ I have been detecting 25 plus years, used through multiple machines and never had trouble like this. Garrett costumer service was non existent..........

Haven't had the excal for too long but it loves the salt water.

You will find the threshold on the Excal weird too.
It remembers what it hits on so the threshold isn't a steady hum.
But it loves salt water.
