Relic Hunting
I dug the button in a differnt location than the bullets. The bullets came from a piece of woods that I just got permission to hunt today. It was weird I found about twelve of these bullets in one hole and most of them are fired idk how this could have happened, any ideas. I think that they are all from the civil war but Im not sure, what makes me wonder is how dark they are.The bullet on the left is a fired williams cleaner with the zinc still there. When digging bullets from the woods are they usually dark like these? Does anyone know a way to get the dark color off? Or should I not even bother cleaning them further?

They could have been forgotten or even discarded by another relic hunter. I've found odd caches like that myself. Some hunters are looking for high dollar items only.. especially years ago when a living could be made from field recoveries.

Let them dry out really well and see what you can flake off with a toothpick.

Nice haul!

interesting button ...welcome to the forum ! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks CSA2K I used toothpicks and cleaned the bullets off they look alot better now. One of the bullets is a washington star base.

Please forgive my ignorance but what kind of bullet is that in the upper right corner in the last pic? Looks like something is stuck in the base of it.

Good diggin Matt. See ya got yourself a New york sweet. The bullets were likely fired at something target practice. :headbang:

Thanks evryone. The bullet in the top right is a williams cleaner. The excelsior button is a first for me.

Good looking haul right there :icon_thumright:

Nice finds VA!! You can get that button restored if you like. Look at the KY Staff Officer's button I dug from a CSA Cav. camp in Dec. before and after. There are 3 guys I know of who can restore it properly:
Robert McDaniel in AL
Roland Fridoh in VA
Leonard Short in VA
HH, Quindy.
