I posted this in today's find but I hoping some one here could tell me about it.. I was walking the creek in a town that was settled in 1790 and found it in the bank. I believe it's early 19th c but I don't know jack about inkwells. On each side it has a different word it says Josiah Johnson's Japan writing fluid London. It looks like its made of stoneware and a salt glaze. I have looked it up and found a picture of on of a different color but no info about it. I love it I just wish I could find some info about it. It has a fingerprint on top from the potter that made it. And no other marks its a reddish brown color. I'm trying to find out about the maker, year it was made and the rarity/value if it. Thanks for helping

I apologize ! I can not help with any info ???? It looks older than what I find around here. Congrats on a cool crude ink !!

Wow! Hopefully some of the bottle guys will see this. That is one nice inkwell.

Hey recon,

Did'ya inquire of the British Bottle guys yet? I found another photo. scarce jonsons pottery stoneware teakettle ink bottle

The teakettle inks are a form not commonly found. At least, by me, in the ground. I've never dug even part of one.

Yours is a Beaut, and finely fingerprinted.

Thanks for helping me. I did post it in UK bottle diggers and sent a couple emails out but no reply yet. From the looks of it this must be an uncommon ink.

Very cool ink wells, love seeing this stuff.

Recon, I like your background "workstation" in your photos. Makes me feel more normal.

Thanks.

Very cool little ink. Awesome to walk up on it in a creek as well.
