Just found these a couple weeks ago. Notice the rings still attached to the shanks. I think it was to hold them on a card.

All of the gilt is unfortunately gone, but ca. 1900 from what I understand. They were meant for a Fire Department uniform, but these two buttons found in close proximity to each other were never used. I believe mine are older than the one you found.

Back mark is Burton - Pierce, Boston
