Neither...just a nice light snack. My bud and I detected a site that I had researched which had some serious military relic potential. It was a drill ground from the early 1800s until the 1870s when it became a school. After hunting for a couple hours and talking to some locals we realized that the actual drill area was half a mile down the road. We eventually found the site but decided to leave it for another day.

I did manage an early Victorian military button. It is a Nova Scotia Militia button pre 1867. In 1867 the Nova Scotia Militia became the First Regiment of Annapolis County Volunteers.

Also found the usual brick-a-brack; crotal bell, harmonica, unidentified decorative metal thing, gold plated ring...not shown; half a dozen spoons and musketballs which were given to the homeowner.

You know, I get really jealous of seeing those Crotal bells. Where I live winter is about 1/2 the year. One would have to believe at least one might have fallen off between the mid 1600s and the early 1900's. I am still hoping to find one. The other recoveries are good as well...but I like them jingle bells!

I've got about 50 in all different sizes...I admit, I like them too and plan on tumbling mine for display purposes.

Bet they'd make a great Christmas display! If you ever have the chance to show them when they are cleaned up, I'd enjoy the view. Thanks again and good luck on continued finds.

Your un-identified metal piece might be from a hanging scale.

Could be...but it looks a little too decorative for that...and there is no descernable center to balance...
