feathers and wedges are an old way of splitting out some types of rock, I would assume that they were used somewhat in the old days, especially in open pit or surface operations. I have seen some new ones sold on certain sites, but they seemed awfully expensive. Does anyone use them if you can't use explosives? I want to open up some surface seams to get at unweathered rock. Already have a good electric rock drill. Anyone have an inexpensive source for the feathers and wedges?
