A federal court of appeals has affirmed a lower court's decision to deny an injunction that would stop eminent domain proceedings against most of the residents of Centralia who do not want to leave their homes despite the mine fire burning underneath.
In an opinion handed down Tuesday, the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals denied the petition of Bonnie Hynoski, Stephen Hynoski, Christine Hynoski, Tom Hynoski, Harold Mervine, John Koschoff, Helen Hynoski and Walter Hynoski for a preliminary injunction and reconsideration and affirmed the U.S. District Court decision handed down March 11, 2011.

According to Wikipedia, the 2010 Census recorded 10 residents in Centralia.

The last time I was there, May 2011, I was surprised to see the wind turbines on
the ridge north of town.

So what is the eviction date? Kinda sad from what the article says, that they have to move when they are in no danger.

At what point will they close the whole area off to anyone? Post no trespassing signs everywhere?

no idea it is possible it was not the Final appeal

& even more possible it will take the National guard & hearses to remove them.
would be the only way they could remove me from my home.:laughing7:

yes I have. several times.
including once as a group from Tnet.

only had one really good day, finds wise.
place is hard to work in many spots, due to de-constuction,
, Coal dirt, fire & Weeds, but always interesting.

I should actually plan a trip as soon as the weather breaks this year.

most videos are pretty shakey, this one isn't real bad

Centralia is like 20 min from me so if u could keep me posted about any more md hunts or the search for the lost cemetery. Also I just learned of a property in town that was built in 1754 and occupied by the British. And I have permission. Also my house was built in 1794 I believe

I know one of them is hidden away in the woods I've been there once and remembered it was hard to get to. Wasn't able to find it again. It only had a few grave markers. Like 6 or 8

not sure of the legality of tents,
although wouldn't surprise me if others have :dontknow:

I'd be up for a hunt on the 16th. or 17th. If it hits 50's
but won't say yes before wednsday

just remember the "Russian Church", "Cemeteries" & "mowed" Grass are off limits

you would think the underground coal mine fires thats been going on for a long long time now would keep the ground warm enough to kept it thawed out year round

at this point unless it rains it is hard to find steam,
either everything is burning out or traveling deep.

Used to be every time I'd go by the fire company was outining another brush fire,
or flames were shooting out the ground like lava

Jeff I think her meant a tnet hunt. Not a tent hut. Lol. As for the cemeteries I was just interested in finding the one. Not digging it up.
