Federal Reserve Question

Hey Guys! I've been looking around the forum for a while, but today I decided to get an account! Anyway, I need some advice. After asking a teller at my bank if they have any nickels/dimes, they told me I cleaned them out completely :laughing7: I asked to order a box, and the teller went to ask if it was possible. It was, and she said that the boxes come straight from the federal reserve. She said that all of the coins that come from there are brand new, though. Since halves haven't been made for circulation in a while, my question is, what do the halves come in from the federal reserve? Boxes of 500? Also, do you think that ikes could be ordered from the reserve? :tongue3:
I just need you guys' advice on ordering from the reserve. Thank you in advance!

The bit about inventories of half dollars building at the Fed is interesting. First of all, I am not sure why the Fed has ordered any half dollars since 2001. Aren't they all NIFC after 2001? If so, I would have thought that they are only available to folks that want to buy them at a premium from the U.S. Mint. If some of the NIFC halves are dumped back into circulation so be it, but I wouldn't think the Fed has any obligation to fill orders for coins that are not longer minted for general circulation.

Not sure what to make of the point about inventory build. I guess the general idea is that halves are not used much anymore for normal transactions, and not even for slot machines. So, since 2001 people and businesses that had halves must have deposited them into banks without ever asking to withdraw halves. The only real demand for halves is probably from hunters like us. This doesn't necessarily mean that there are a lot of untouched halves sitting in the Fed's inventory, it could just mean that hunters churn those 110 million halves by taking halves out of inventory and then depositing them back in, so the inventory level stays roughly the same.

I think the real question is whether they process coin FIFO or LIFO... if it's the ladder, then there's got to be huge stacks of untouched halves. Our demand would never make a dent on what they hold in reserve. Like CC-Hunter said, us CRHers (or other currency hobbyists) have to be the only ones circulating halves.

On the contrary, Suzanne Somers outsources all the production of her A.B. roller"s to China. When you buy an AB roller from Suzanne Somers on Amazon, a Taiwanese supplier out of Korea acknowledges the order of raw material, and then in tirn ships them to Taiwan.
There they are prepared for the Malaysian component producers. The packaging is printed in Manila, having already been shipped to Cambodia for final inspection.
Upon final assembly in Indonesia they are carefully shipped through the straits of Sumatra by freighter and onto the warehouse in Toronto.........

Then, I should get a free eggroll with every ab-roll purchase?

I think the casino scenario could have something to do with influx of halves to the fed. Casinos went away from coin in droves and all of it had to go somewhere. When I first started searching halves I found TONS of casino halves. Now I seldom see them in my searching. I believe they were removed.
