We spent the first hour on a cover crop (for sheep), it was a little too high & there were very little signs about. I had a hunch that the next field that we had tried previous years (with no success) was worth another go. I picked a spot near to the Villiage edge & started gridding, on my 3rd run up popped the lovely Groat.:headbang: We gridded that area for 3 hours covering about 1.5 acres with the following result:
(days total = 4 hours)

Dad had a nice Medieval Buckle plate with Dragon biting its tail (hard to picture, as its bent)
Broken Medieval Horse Harness Pendant
Livery Button
19th C Northampton Yeomanry Button8-)
Henry VII Groat - 1489-93 (I hardly ever find Groats, this is my first Henry VII)
My first ever Viking Cheek Piece (from a horse bridal) - Very Rare! See similar:
Record ID: SF-41B986 - EARLY MEDIEVAL bridle fitting - Database
Dug it at 11" in choppy stick clay, glad to see a good deep find instead of junk, as it was pretty tiring.

I am in love with that groat! You found better finds today than I found in the entire 2014! What is your lifetime hammered silver total around now??

Coinman123,

Coinman123,
The total for Dad & I (no way of breaking them out, but I get about 65-70% of them) is 603, but this only includes from when we started proper records, so maybe about 700.

I'm happy to see you've found a very promising site and I look forward to more of your finds. Congrats on the Viking piece - I hope you find many more!
