Great day to be out... it was sunny (imagine that) and temp was 65 today!!
YAY!! Anyways, dogs and I went to get some junk... yeah, a few misc. items. Lots of melted glass & broken dishes. Must've found an old "lagoon" as my mother calls it. A few square nails, part of a horse's bit. A few other things I don't know. Looks like some kind of hinge or latch thingy...
Good size gar fish my dogs found too. Mini mega phone??? JK don't know what that is either.
Finally, something pretty!! It was pretty shiny up from the ground. I half-a$$ cleaned it, but could do better. Thought it might have been a bracelet, even though it is flat now. There is a kitchen knife says made in England. (Thank God it didn't say made in China!!)
Dogs and I left the lake area, and went home to eat. Then not wanting to waste any beautiful daytime, we hurried to the nearest dry creek bed. After the rain we've had, it's got a little water in it now, but not much. The fresh air was amazing!! Looks like a set of claws, and they were found in close proximity, BUT, I really don't think they are claws. We were having such a good time, and dark was fast approaching us. Being in the middle of (almost) nowhere... we literally had to run back to the vehicle before we couldn't see our feet.
Ever try running in big rubber boots in a creek bed??? NOT EASY!! LOL
I had NO light with me, I didn't expect to be out this long. So, these are our finds for the day...

Nice fossils. What are those "finger-shaped" ones?

That Gar Fish looks like an ankle biter, liking the claw looking fossils very cool.

Interesting note about the Gar Fish taken from a link:
Gar flesh is edible, and sometimes available in markets, but unlike the sturgeon they resemble, their eggs are highly toxic to humans.[SUP][13][/SUP] Several species are traded as aquarium fish.[SUP][11][/SUP]
The hard skin and scales of the gar were used by humans. Native Americans used the scales of the gar as arrowheads, native Caribbeans used the skin for breastplates, and early American pioneers covered the blades of their plows in gar skin.[SUP][14][/SUP] Not much is known about the precise function of the gar in Native American religion and culture, but besides using the gar, Creek and Chickasaw people have ritual "garfish dances"

Ferocious looking gar are, but only to other fish, LUCKILY... I've seen them dead on shoreline with BODY 6 ft long, without the head, and you know the heads are long!
Chickasaw, huh??? I'll have to tell my parents about that. My great grandfather was 100% Chickasaw indian!

When I lived in Oklahoma, I learned guys that fish for Gar used a piece of frayed white nylon rope attached to the hook of a " spoon " lure. Their teeth would get tangled in the nylon fibers. I know the first one I ever caught by chance was too scary looking for me to get my fingers anywhere close to those teeth!
