Hi Everybody!! I finally found my first SLQ, it has no date of course but I am really happy to finally have found 1. It was at a house built in 1877, also found a few other things in the pictures. A 1936 Silver Quarter, a few wheats dates range from 1912-1950's, a pocket watch outer ring, an old compact (I think) see hinge on back of it, and an old lipstick tube, basically the whole Betty Boop make up kit. Thanks for looking and happy hunting. I have found fewer silver coins this year than last but have found 2 that I never found before, a Barber dime in the spring and now the SLQ so I am happy. Thanks

Always check the compacts for coins! I hear sometimes ladies kept coin in there. I've dug quite a few myself...no coins...but you never know...maybe in the next one I find ;D ;D ;D

grats on the SLQ!

Thanks, yeah I thought of that but you can hear just a little rattle like a small piece of dirt when you shake it so I doubt anything good, btw the other quarter is a 1936, must have left out the picture of the front. Duh.

The SLQ is very high on my list at the moment. I would gladly trade any silver coin, except for a seated dime, for that opportunity... Good job.

Congrats, Captain! You'll remember this day for a long time!

And for XPress2: to find SLQ's is fairly simple: look at places which had lots of activity before 1935, when SLQ's in fairly decent condition were still circulating. Keep in mind that over 7 million SLQ's were minted in 1930 (last year of issue), but in 1934 35+ million Washington quarters were minted, and nearly 45 million quarters in 1935! Just as now, when coins are removed from common circulation, the mint tends to create many more new coins to fill the coinage gap. A 1930 SLQ probably was circulated until at least 1940, but got in poor condition pretty fast. So try to find areas where people had coins with them before 1940. Simple, no?

Great find! I think the SLQ is one of the prettiest US coins. I finally got one myself .... bought it at a coin show a few weeks back! ;D
