Main reason I went out was this

1938 Aerial

1938.jpg
Notice the Buildings at the Bottom & the Paths up to a Large Tree (Old shady spot to watch Ball Games Maybe ? or
Picnic Area ?)
Area is a Steep Bank, now all Trees, but sadly inaccessible till spring

And I got a Signal and dug down to the edge of a plastic Tarp in an old dried up stream & immediately
figured Grommet , but couldn't find it, so I lifted enough to Dig below it

and Found this small odd shaped bell

unfortunately the jinglet or pea, did not survive, so I can't hear it's original ring any more

There is a song about swimming across a creek ......." My ding a ling" .....

Hey,good on getting out.
That big tree site did draw paths to itself. Lots of male dogs had to pee or something.:laughing7:

It must be cocktail time my friend :) Hope Jeff is doing some vegetating right now, just relaxing for a while. By the way, Jeff always posts incredible pictures of his outings!

Hey PA, I miss your posts with the old/newer photos! Good to see you on here again (we were away on winter hiatus). That's a neat looking bell, and I haven't seen a crotal of that shape. Congrats. ~Lisa & John

Looks like a fair amount of shade to hide under. A tot-lot for easies. Yet, some cleared areas for potential.

The bell looks like a typical "jingle bell" but I can't tell the size.
You could heat it up, spread the slot enough for a new pea and then just squeeze it back. Just a thought.

Not a crotal bell per say, horse sleigh bell (rein bell) is a better description. Don't give up on it not ringing Jeff, sometimes the ball being iron gets stuck to the side of the bell.

horse rein bells Forth row of images show what I mean.

and yes it looks like the type that were riveted to a leather strap
and hooked around the horses neck.

site has a bit of everything, good and bad.
shade, maybe tics [they seem to fear me, or hate my taste, or stick to biting spots I can't see], sun , humidity, roots to prevent digging, pine trees, empty ground. etc.
has given me a seated dime, barbers, a 2 center and allot of walking
around dead ground over the years, I barely hunted 1% of the woods.
probably .001% of the woods really. I have Verbal Permission for everything in Blue
except the Ball Field which is inside a fence of course.

ajkku.jpg

of late it appeared to be forgotten by the maintenance.
someone finally cut the grass around the park and school,
probably for the 4th of... weekend
but not around the outside the ball field.

and about 300 Feet back from the road, the Park has 100 foot almost Vertical Drop
with paths leading down into the rest of the woods.

because of the school across the street, I only hunt it this time of year and sparingly anyway

Yep it was rusted fast inside, But while cleaning it out and trying to loosen it,
it disintegrated some . hence my wording "it did not survive".
After further work, I was able to pop part of it off.

DSCF0001(1).JPG
But it sounds like a rolled up aluminum Foil Booger. No real jingle Bell Tone
that sounds so cool :(
