I have been a member of TreasureNet since May, and since I have been able to work from home for most of SIP, I am able to go out and MD in nearby parks and beaches in the early morning. Living in Silicon Valley has its ups and downs and certainly one of the downs for me is I haven't sniffed a coin older than 1980! Well, that changed today, and of all the places I've gone, I found this in my own backyard! It might not seem like anything to many of you (I see your posts everyday!), and I could easily cheat and post an old coin that I've had for years and say I found it yesterday, but I won't do that. The thrill of discovery is too good to cheat. So here it is, my first coin older than 1980. I can now rest easy...

There is or was a guy down that way that was always finding gold rings in the parks and schools down around that area but I never seen him post any old coins either. It would be sweet to get permission for the Winchester house bound to be all kinds of goodies around there.

That 'guy' was Glen, I remember 10 years ago he detected almost every park & schoolyard within a 20 mile radius of his house in San Jose.
I'm not surprised that you found a '46 Wheatie in your backyard Reg, but that's only because Glen didn't have easy access to it. :laughing7:

Keep at it though, here are some ideas of where you might look to detect...

You could shorten that list to anywhere humans have tread! That list is good and gives you an idea of finding more where groups gathered.

Congrats on finding your oldest coin - it's always a thrill when you keep breaking this record in the future !

On top of the list of potential hunting sites listed above I would also do this - it can really pay off !

Make a list of family members - friends - co-workers - basically everyone you know.
Asked them how old their houses are - if older than 60 yrs. plus - hunt them !

Good Luck !

Thanks for the leads Antiquarian! There are a number of places on your list that have possibilities. One of the major problems with the SF Bay Area is that the population is so condensed, most of the open spaces are gone due to development. I'm going to work hard to find the places that haven't been. Wish me luck!

Thanks...on another topic, how do you like your E-trac? I've been checking out some YouTube videos and reading what owner's have to say about it and I really like the programmable nature of discrimination. What's your take? $1500 is a lot of money!

Hey! That is MY penny... I was born in 1946! :laughing7: All kidding aside, congratulations on breaking the 1980 barrier with a nice wheatie!
