Finding lots of small iron with my 5.75" coil. What am I doing wrong?

I recently bought a 5.75 concentric for my Tejon, and while it has found several targets I had been unable to find with the stock coil, it seems to love small iron and nails. Am I doing something wrong as far as ground balancing, or is that typical behavior for this coil? I have read the 5.75 concentric has great discrimination, but that doesn't seem to be the case for me. I am hoping this is user error and not a bad coil. Thanks in advance.

May just be the area you're in. You could try to GB again but when I had mine it didn't matter what I did if I was in an iron infested site every once in a while it would fool the machine and I'd dig it. I so badly want to take the F75 on its maiden voyage and see how she does in those iron infested civil war sites up north

The Tejon is NOT the right machine for iron and trash - No matter what coil you put on it. It's like expecting a "Wood Driver" to perform well as a "Putter," just because you put on a golf glove to use it. The Tejon is a DEPTH machine built for hunting relics and deeper targets in open fields or deep woods. Now put that small coil on a Cibola, and seperation is a breeze! :occasion14:

The Tejon requires a little higher disc than other Tesoro's to eliminate rusty, bent nails completely.....And once you find the disc that suits you, check each "good sounding" target from several directions. A good target will not "break" or have the pops and crackles of iron trash. You may still dig a few nails or bigger iron but it will be minimal. Also, adjust the tone to your own preference and it will help in learning the sound of a good target. I am sure you have heard it before but a Tesoro is not really a one tone machine.....they have many sounds and I can tell iron 90% of the time with my Tejon....even bigger pieces. The Tejon is one of those machine that people thinks they have mastered after a week only to find out they are still learning things about it 6 months later. Don't give up on that Tejon, it is a great machine!

Also, when setting your disc for thick iron, try to set it to just "break up" the majority of the nail signals, not eliminate them completely since the higher you go with the disc the more good targets you will eliminate also. But if you are only looking for silver or other high conductors then crank it up to say pull tab and you should be ok......big iron will have a pop or blare to it. Good targets will be smooth and pleasant to the ears. A good pair of headphones is critical here, I recommend the Gray Ghost phones....only ones I use.

My settings for heavy iron trash with the 5.75 coil on Tejon are:
Ground Balance: perfectly neutral-just slightly negative
Sense: 7-8
Disc: between foil and nickel (depending on site)
Tone: set to your ears!

Pretty much the same settings I use on the Tejon in the same conditions :icon_thumright:

Happy Hunting, :headbang:
