Hi All,

This weekend my friend and I went across the bush to a gold mine where we found an old store. Quite funny it was called "Rhodesian Wholesalers". I guess the mine must of had a lot of Rhodesian labourers working at the mine.

Anyway this store has been used as a firing range, so lots and lots and lots of old shells and shot here which made detecting just about unbearable. But we persevered, and just outside the outside toilets I got a signal which I dug, and it was a South African army badge (post 1965). All of the gilding has gone, so it looks very dull.... But hey it is my first badge find ;D

Our area is made up from the Vredadorp dome meteorite, and so I also found a stone of about 4" which was very much attracted to a magnet..... We walked the whole way (14km) through bush, so I left it behind, but my friend is going there by car today to go and fetch it. If he does I will post a pic next week of it ::)

Below are a couple of pictures.... I hope you enjoy. The dirty badge is the one I found, the other came of the Net and is the mirrow badge... note the soldier.

God bless
Peter

Thanks guys for all the interest..... the badge is not Cuban but South African "Citizen Force Infantry (Skiet Kommando), gilding metal beret badge worn post 1963.jpg" cannot wait till I get some older badges from the Boer war though ::)

God bless
Peter

Hi Guys,

Update on the badge is that it is a lepel badge and not the beret badge, although they look identical. That is the reason the soldier is facing the other way. A troopie would have one on each lepel, and one on his beret.
I must admit it had me confused for a little bit, I thought the soldier was running away from the battle ;D

God bless
Peter
