Has been a rough spring. Got out a few times but today was a big hunt. I found a plated ring (rats!) and a plumb bob for my best finds. Also got a big old square nail, some keys and plenty of trash!

A plated ring is still a ring and puts you one step closer to the next real one. Plus, you got out there for a big hunt. The journey is half the fun anyway.
Btw, cool plum bob. That's one item I've never found.

I also found one of those plated heart stoppers a couple of weeks ago. It had some fancy schmancy lookin' stones too. Those gold filled ones are even worse because they look even more real than the plated ones. I rode around for half a day once thinking I had hit the jackpot only to later find out it was filled. It truly fooled me until I cleaned it enough to see the entire mark. All I saw was "18K". Double rats.
Congrats.

Congratz on your finds! Those plated rings are such heart breakers tho! That looks just like a ring I dug at Thanksgiving. My heart stopped when I say it. Then it was marked 18k HGE, which at the time I thought was 18k and a markers mark. Then I got home and found out that it meant plated. I was so disappointed. Good luck and hopefully the next one will be real!

I really hate plated rings. I hate the beautiful rings with beautiful stones that you look on the inside and you see the word AVON even worse!. Why can't the cheapskate lose the real deal?

Nice hunt. Congrats on all the coins.

HGE= "Heavy gold electroplate"; as if that's a good thing.

ouch, I have found 18k HGE as well :(

The HGE/heavy gold electroplate is actually three times the standard thickness of plated jewelry; which is 3 microns. So, HGE has a whopping 9 microns of plating on it. Oh boy.
It's just as worthless as any other plated ring.
