First box of pennies. Ugh!

Was it a formaldahyde smell? I've had that with some penny boxes. got worse as I tore open each roll. nasty smell. that or something else?

I had a few rolls of dimes with a butane smell before it was quite bad

It gets better. My worst box was 6 wheats and my best was 12 or 13, with my average around 9-10. I also come up with a fair number of Canadian cents, including a '33 or '38 a couple of weeks ago.

Can't describe the smell except stinky, and a lot of the coins felt sticky and slimey.

Maybe from a science experiment. I got $5 in pennies from my friend who had the pennies picked up by parents who are school janitors. Some were bent, smelled weird or were just artificially toned.
