Well I found my first cellar hole yesterday. It was fun detecting it but all I found were some old nails. Just thought I would post this to let other newbies know that not every cellar hole has great finds like we see on t.v or at youtube. I will go back and give it another try for sure,,,,who knows maybe there is some silver there to find :)

Just like Cru sez...work outward, while not every cellar hole is a gold mine, there will be more there than old nails...nails=people...people drop stuff..good luck! Ddf

You and I had the same experience this weekend. But like Cruz said, try beyond the immediate area of the cellar hole. I think many assume that anything good would have been inside and that is where they concentrate. I think many cellar holes have been hunted over and over. moving your search outside the walls may give better results. Try to find highly used areas like a well or an outhouse.

Thnx for the great info all. I like the idea of going around it in increasing circles. Gonna give that a try :)
