NOW, that's ONE BIG PIECE OF OLD corroded iron. In that stage of decay it would be really hard to clean up....and could be tough to identify. I'd like to see it in person but trying to gauge what it is through the photos is tough. I can tell you that I've dug alot of iron in colonial and civil war sites over the years and it could be just about anything.......On another note, nice saves on the Minies and the Roundballs :icon_thumleft: :wink: :wink:

Nice digs. You are giving me the fever. Between the artifact section and the civil war I am doomed. Iron could be anything. I find lots of wagons blown to pieces and have axles and all sorts of orange crusted what is its.

I salute you to being able to find any grass to detect on around there.


SOME of the past local detectorist's have made it very difficult for the new responsible ones the oppourtunity.
