Tnrelicman (Guy), Mike (Woodland Detectors) and I went to the Diggin in Virginia hunt last week and had a great time. It was our first DIV and we hope to attend many more. I was using my new MXT PRO and it took me a day or two to find out how to hunt that ground. We don't have anything like that here in Tennessee. I was getting good bullet and button signals in one field and then went into next field and everything rang up as iron. I wonder how many good targets I past the first day or two. Mike was using the new GPX 5000 and was out digging everyone who did not have one. That is one very deep machine. He was going behind everybody and digging targets they could not find. Although I did not find much I had one of the best times ever and I have been detecting 30 yrs. I found three frame buckles and one small silver buckle, a sharps ringtail (my first), eagle button, two hole button, another bullet that looked like it had a liner around it. I was told what it was but forgot and that not too many were dug. Also got a strange round piece with six holes drilled at an angle. I thought it was a coin at first. And a few drop and fired bullets. It was nice to finally meet so many people that I have been talking to online for a long time.

Great shots Randy! :hello: That was a good time. I highly recommend doing the D.I.V. once if you all can. We will hit it again fellas. Just watch out for those "Big Boots" :laughing9:

Looks like a great hunt had by all. Just returned from a fantastic group gathering myself from the southern IL. Was fortunat enough to dig a 1/2 reale. Soaking in distilled water to get some more detail out of it, but will post pics and post soon.

Congratulations on a great hunt!

The iron piece in the center of the 2 buckle frames I believe is actually a link to an old style farm equipment belt. My buddies old corn pickin machine's drive belt is made up of links almost identical. That 6 holed brass piece is intriguing... I'd love to see an ID on it. Nice finds!!

Now that looked like a great time you guys where having . And yes I am going to have to work at making it to one of those.
That Minelab 5000 that Mike used is like having a huge radar on a stick .

I forgot about "Big Boots" ha ha. That was funny. DIV is probably one of my biggest highlights in metal detecting. We will surely have to do that again.

Found out later after you ask me, the round thing is part of powder flask...some internal part of the top.

You did OK for that hard ground Randy. Congrats on the tie ring Sharps as they are not plentiful in Tennessee. I'm sure that you, Guy, and Mike made some new friends there. HH, Quindy.

You recovered a lot of targets and I know you worked hard for them like we all did. Nice to meet you, Mike, and Tnrelicman at the end of the pre-hunt meeting. The other bullet you showed close ups of is a fired Confederate Gardner. Is that the one you forgot what it was called?
