probably no one else out there has ever found one like this (I been in the hobby for over 40 yrs and I have not seen one yet)
and it is one for the books - worth only a few bucks ..but worth a 1000 words
found on 1st day of my trip in Va. about 1 1/2 feet down. When I first pulled it from my scoop I thought
"why would someone put a piece of brass on a sinker ?- it would cut or wear thru their line"
. I did not examine it - just dropped it in my pouch and continued hunting, but kept thinking bout it ...could that have been a band ?
Shrugged it off. When I got back to my room ...I dug thru all the other sinkers looking for it (I found 19)
My GF asked if I got anything good and I told her I had a silver ring but "I need to look at this sinker I found...I think it might have a ring attatched to it"
She said, "What?" in confusion. I pulled it from my pouch and noticed it had a pattern on it and a small diamond chip - WOW!
but was it gold ? - My eye sight is shot and my loupe was buried for the moment in one of my bags. My Gal grabbed the sinker and went under a lamp
and said, "Yup..I see 10K!"
If a larger ring or big real stone...I'd probably have to remove it...its small and thin and is cooler as is...not the ring I was looking for - for my first of the
year - but it goes in my book as one of the coolest.

Odd like you said one of a kind ...HH

Sure doesn't look like gold in the pics, but if it is, congrats!

All wedding rings should be sold like that, or perhaps a ball and chain?

Truth in advertising, man!

its 10k from saltwater - prob been there a little while
- Ive found over 100 with worse color than that - you know 10k can turn green in salt water if there long enough?
they can come out different colors depending on what they used for the other 14k of the ring - brass - copper - nickel - silver
will all turn 10k gold a different color if in salt water long enough

Now isn't that a weird one... who the heck attaches a gold ring to a 4 ounce sinker... AND why. heh

And HOW did they do it? Is it a split ring?

my guess - a divorce or bad break up - or someone passed away and family member did it cause he was a fisherman :dontknow:

Probably divorced and wanted to fling that thing as far as humanly possible.

ARRRG ! A thought just went through my mind (which does still happen from time to time :P )...

What IF...

This is "THE" ring... As in "THE EVIL RING"...
And was tossed as to keep from anyone reach.

Tossed to be gone forever from humanities reach... only to be found and brought back to create havoc.

Casper I suggest you place ring on nightstand beside your bed and sleep with one eye open...

That is unless you wear an eye patch. :P

Just tossed it back :BangHead:

Not to shabby
Gold is gold
Nice

it is cut with metal cutters and they bent it thru the sinkers eyelet- I will leave it that way

Congrats on your gold find! :occasion14:
That is an odd thing to do to a band but I would think it was to get rid of memories and the tie from the marriage?!?! :dontknow:
