Went to NY State with my brother, Roz, and Golden1. We had previously found some nice stuff and several coins at this old homestead. Today I found a totaly wasted 1/2 reale. The only reason I know it is a 1/2 reale is the size. I have a 1 reale and this one is thinner and slightly smaller. The only thing readable is "Carolus", "DE" and the "17" in the date. My brother also found a piece of "Funny" money that I would appreciate someone dating it for me. Has a date of 1828, looks exactly like a largie only it is colored silver, is much lighter and thinner, and has a line through the obverse. Obviously the line is to show it is a fake. Kinda wierd. Someone used it for target practice but the bullet never went all the way through. Can someone date this thing for me. I've never seen a "Largie" made from funny money! It is actually pretty heavy metal, but is slightly lighter than a LC as it is not copper. This coin was 4-5" down. We are headed back over tomarrow to another homestead in the same area. Maybe come back with another "poster" for the site! HH Hogge

Anyway that can be an oddball largie? Discolored somehow through the years? The line almost looks like a cracked die (a bad one at that ;D). Great finds regardless...

Nice finds,

Looks pretty darn good though. Counterfeit probably cast by someone back in those days. I'd say it's 150 yrs old or more. It's actually better than a regular LC.

Nice period counterfeit LC. I guess it is likely pot metal or some similar metal.

Very Cool!

Very cool. A couple of very sweet finds. The "funny" LC looks pretty real to me.

So you had to travel a whole 45 minutes to get to NY?

Looks like a good time.
