I had a strong nickel signal at 3 inch depth and figured it would be another modern nickel to add to the Coinstar jar. Well it's not exciting by TN standards, but I jumped up for joy when I dug this yesterday because my area rarely yields anything older than 1930s. It's my oldest US coin find.

Excellent condition,, I dug a 1908 on Monday that is toasted. Contrary to popular belief, V nickels are not a common find in NYC.
Congrats on a nice recovery.

I've only dug two of these, and yours has much better detail. What about the back? Congrats on a nice find!

Here's the back:

I love this site because it has this soft, dry, powdery dirt. Even after heavy rains it is bone dry only a couple inches down.

That's a sweetie!
Wasn't it THRILL??
My only v-nickel was at a tennis court pull-out,
and totally unexpected, where the oldest coin in the
neighborhood, was a 1920 Wheat cent.

that's a nice one. I really like V-nicks. Haven't found one in years though. First coin I ever dug was a V-nick in my folk's yard when I was 12 years old. I was hooked instantly.
