Got home from work and read a few posts. Was inspired, so headed out with the detector. Found an ongoing expansion at my local tot lot where the new equipment was up, but no mulch down yet. The entire area had been scraped of grass and the top layer of soil. Found some trash, but after a couple of wheat pennies, knew I was into some good soil. Sure enough, it wasn't long and I found my very first Mercury dime!! It is a 1940 plain!
Also came home with 3 wheat pennies (1940 P, 1957 D and 1958D), 7 modern nickels, 2 modern pennies, 1 modern dime and 1 modern quarter. Oh yeah, some buttons and trash, too. Threw the big can slaw away in the trash can before leaving.
I hope to hit it again before the mulch is put in place!
