I've been hunting casually, pretty low key for a couple of seasons, picked up a couple hard stone stuff but points had eluded me. They're not just laying all over the ground here in New England like they do in some places.
I have identified a couple good spots where I find flakes and pieces of the hard white or "milk" quartz that was used for much of the points around here.
On easter sunday, not being religeous, I decided to hit a field that had lots of quartz flakes. Hadn't be there all winter and was hoping it was plowed. Hadn't been plowed but the freeze/thaw flood/dry of winter had opened big cracks in the hard packed ground and rain gullies washed out little mini canyons.
As I crossed one large field to get to the good spot, the wind blew my scent into a strip of brush between the two fields and a coyote got a whiff of me. He came trotting out across the other field moving slow and relaxed. I was far enough away to not be a threat. As he ambled across the field, he reached the top of a little ridge and stopped and looked back at me. He looked right into my eyes for a second then turned and trotted off.
I walked straight to that ridge and found the first point a half hour later. The second right near by 15 minutes later.
